Mint Hill Residents,
With all the rain we’ve received, people are calling Town Hall with storm water issues, and I want to remind you of our partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (CMSWS) to manage storm water within the Town limits. This partnership allows the Town to efficiently meet local, state, and federal requirements related to storm water.
The partnership is highly beneficial to the residents of Mint Hill as it ensures thorough management of all issues relating to “storm water” within the Town limits without requiring additional Town staff dedicated solely to administering an individual storm water program. It also allows the Town to utilize the vast resources of Mecklenburg County for things like well-trained staff to inspect and monitor infrastructure (pipes, ditches, culverts, etc.), inform and educate the public about storm water issues, and to document storm water issues that are called in by residents.
The Mint Hill Public Works Department’s role in storm water typically is receiving issue reports from the CMSWS investigator, working on qualifying issues with in-house staff or contracting the work out to private contractors and assisting in new storm water infrastructure inspections.
If you have a problem, please call 3-1-1 or 704-336-7600 and tell them you have a storm water issue to report. The operator will take your information and a description of the problem. Someone will visit the reported location (typically within one week) to investigate and determine if the problem qualifies for repair under the storm water program.
This week’s featured employee is Savanna Ocasio. Savanna started working as a Program Support Assistant covering the front desk in 2020. One week after she started working, Town Hall closed down due to Covid so she had some challenges getting to know her coworkers and learning a new job. Savanna is a ray of sunshine in the office. She has taken charge of the online reservation system, working with a wide variety of people to schedule everything from tournaments, field reservations and birthday parties. Savanna is a dependable, attentive, and responsible employee. She is an excellent listener and communicator. Thank you, Savanna, for your dedication to the Town of Mint Hill.
