Mint Hill Residents,

2020 has not been the year we all thought it would be and our events have changed drastically. Most have been cancelled, but the one event we all agreed needed to be modified was our Veterans Breakfast. A Veterans Appreciation Drive-through has been planned for November 14th. If you are a veteran and did not receive an invitation to the event, please call Mint Hill Town Hall at 704-545-9726 to be added to our veterans list.

Our friends at Create A Video have offered to support the Town of Mint Hill's recognition of our local heroes by creating a video made from pictures of our veterans. So dust off your photo of your favorite veteran (that could be you, your dad, mom, sister, brother, friend) to be included in our video honoring our local veterans! Photos can be dropped off at Create A Video at 8300 Fairview Road, Mint Hill (across the street from the Fire Department) or email your photos to chall@createavideo.com.

A public meeting was held on Thursday October 15, 2020 for the proposed Mecklenburg County Ezell Community Park (located between Well Road and Mintwood Drive along NC51). If you'll recall, this park was previously planned in 2010, but County funding delayed the project until it was restarted in late 2019 with the intent to reprogram the features and amenities.

Originally scheduled as an in-person meeting at Town Hall, COVID precautions required an online "virtual" meeting. Using the popular Zoom app, residents were able to view the presentation, give feedback on ideas, and ask questions of the County's design team. The purpose of the meeting was to gather input from the community about park and recreation wants and needs for this park.

The Ezell Community Park will be a 90-acre feature that will serve all residents of Mint Hill and surrounding areas. The time for residents to give their input is now during the planning stage. More input from residents will give the County more data to consider when shaping the final plan for the park's amenities.

The County plans to hold one more public input meeting in January 2021 before shifting into the design stage. I encourage all residents—regardless of where you live—to attend this meeting and share your thoughts on how County Park & Rec money should be spent in our Town.

There is one more week to vote on your favorite scarecrow. Prizes will be awarded to the top three businesses and residences. Stay tuned for information on our next contest coming in the next few weeks. COVID-19 may keep us socially distant, but it will not keep us from having fun in our town.
