11.04.2020 Message from Mayor Brad Simmons
Mint Hill Residents,
Town of Mint Hill officials have decided to cancel a longstanding tradition, the Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas Parade, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was not an easy decision. For years, this event has brought families and friends downtown spreading holiday cheer and welcoming Santa. We simply are unable to produce an event and ensure the safety of all per local and state guidelines.
We knew this day was coming. Town staff have spent the past several weeks planning on how to save Christmas and we think people will be excited. We have had to rethink how we do all our events. The scarecrow competition was a huge success, and we are hoping what we have planned for Christmas is just as successful. Thanks to our sponsors Edifice, Inc. and Atrium Health, Mint Hill will be brighter than ever.
The Town is planning a December to Remember. In the spirit of the season, we will be kicking off the Great Christmas Decorating Festival. 'Tis the season to start planning and decorating your homes and businesses for the Christmas season. Decorations on your home, business or yard qualify. If you can see the decorations from the road, you qualify. There will be two categories, business and residential. Prizes will be awarded to the Best Christmas Decorations and the Best Front Door in each category.
A special virtual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is planned which you will be able to view with your family on the Town's YouTube site. Santa will host weekly podcasts during the month of December and a mailbox with direct access to the North Pole will be available at Town Hall starting on December 1st.
Stay tuned for details.
Stay safe, stay healthy!
Mint Hill Mayor
